With the dates of the Lok Sabha elections 2019 out, it’s time to gear up to exercise your right to vote. The polls will begin on 11 April and continue for over a month until 19 May across seven phases

The counting of votes will be done on 23 May, the Election Commission announced on Sunday.

While political parties are worried about either getting re-elected or defeating their rivals, voters also have some work to do: one of these is to make sure your names are in the electoral roll.

You can check if your name is on the list, make corrections and even register as a voter by visiting the website of the National Voters’ Services Portal (NVSP).

If you have changed your residence and are now living in a different assembly constituency, you can register yourself in your new constituency by filling Form 6.

You can find Form 6 on the NVSP website. You’ll have to submit an address proof of your new residence, such as electricity bill, along with the form.

You can also fill the form offline and submit it to the Electoral Registration Officer / Assistant Electoral Registration Officer of the area of your new residence.

The Election Commission operates a helpline at 1950 to help answer queries from voters. HuffPost India made two separate calls to the helpline and both times, the officials answering the phone told us that while it takes 45 days for the changes to reflect, voters can apply now to change their constituency in time for the general election.
