The father of a 13-year-old girl was arrested for allegedly raping his daughter's 8-year-old friend at a public park in Delhi on Saturday.
The survivor child and her friend, who is also the accused's daughter, are currently being counseled to help them overcome the trauma that they have been through.
"They are coping with the traumatic experience," the Hindustan Times quoted an official saying. "For now, our attention is ensuring that the rape victim, as well as the daughter of the accused, are able to recover from what they experienced."
The counselors have said that the girls will take time to get over the trauma. The police is not sure yet if it will make the accused's daughter a witness in the case.
The incident occurred when the two minors were playing in a park in the city's Kamla Nagar area. The accused reportedly lured the victim and took her to an unused open gym nearby and began sexually abusing her using his fingers, a police investigator said.
The accused, a widower and father of two minors, has been booked for rape and under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
