When you think of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the first thing that comes to your mind is his ability to hit long and clean sixes. Last weekend, he reminded us of that special skill — and like what.
On Saturday, the men in blue defeated New Zealand in their first warm-up match at the Oval by 45 runs due to the Duckworth-Lewis method as rain stopped play.
Chasing New Zealand's 189, India lost Ajinkya Rahane early. Dhawan and Indian skipper Virat Kohli then steered India towards a comfortable victory as Kohli remained unbeaten at 52*.
Dhoni, who chipped in a handy knock of 17, sent one of the short deliveries from Trent Boult out of the park. Not the longest and the cleanest maximum you'll usually see from Mahi's bat, but it was hit hard and flat. Fielder Colin de Grandhomme who was placed at the boundary rope just before the delivery expecting the exact shot from Dhoni could only be a spectator.
An animated Dhoni was all smiles as he walked towards the skipper Kohli.
As for the New Zealanders, their plan to fox Dhoni failed and all they could do is manage a smile.
