On Monday, we got to see the first glimpse of Raabta, director Dinesh Vijan's upcoming movie that stars Sushant Singh Rajput and Kriti Sanon in leading roles, and Jim Sarbh (of Neerja fame) as the main antagonist. Vijan is best known for producing Finding Fanny, Cocktail, and Badlapur.
Alternating between the present and a fantastical past, the trailer begins with banter between the love-struck leads, until the sinister villain makes an appearance and starts off a chain of action filled sequences.
There's plenty going on in the 2-minute trailer and, in all the action and jump-cuts, we probably missed something. The versatile Rajkummar Rao! Yes, the National Award-winning actor, who has done movies such as Shahid, Aligarh, Kai Po Che, Citylights, and Trapped and played a transgender woman in the Bengali film Ami Sairabanu last year.
And now, in an unrecognisable avatar, Rao plays a 324-year-old human in a love story that cuts across centuries.
According to a report in Mid Day, Rao was apparently put through no less than 16 look tests before the team agreed on the current one.
"I did this friendly appearance for Dinoo (Vijan) and Homi," he told Mid Day. "It was too much fun. Dinoo gave me a lot of freedom as an actor. The prosthetic make-up would take hours to put on and take off. I sweat profusely under a thick layer of make-up. It needed quite a bit of patience."
The actor took to his Twitter account and revealed his Raabta look, leaving his fans reeling.
