Bharatiya Janata Party leader Sushil Kumar Modi compared Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Emperor Ashoka, while demanding that Patna be renamed Pataliputra, the capital of the Mauryan Empire, The Telegraphreported over the weekend.
Speaking at an event to celebrate the 2,322th birth anniversary of Emperor Ashoka on Saturday, Sushil Modi, a senior BJP leader based in Bihar, said, "Ashoka was never defeated, that's why he was called Chakravartin. His writ used to run all over the world. In today's world, there is only one man whose writ runs all over the world and that is Narendra Damodardas Modi. He is even more popular than US President Donald Trump."
"Just like Ashoka, Narendra Modi is an all-conquering Chakravartin," he said. "If Madras can become Chennai, Calcutta can become Kolkata and Bangalore can become Bengaluru, why can't Patna become Pataliputra."
Sushil Kumar Modi also said, "When Pakistan killed 19 of our soldiers, we killed 40 of theirs. This has happened because of Narendra Modi"...."Dalai Lama visited Arunachal Pradesh under Narendra Modi's watch in spite of China's bullying."
Earlier this year, BJP leaders compared Modi to spiritual leader Swami Vivekananda on his 154th birth anniversary.
