Rallies across the US were held on Monday after President Donald Trump called on the ā€œmillions of people who voted to make America great againā€ to hold demonstrations, which he predicted ā€œwould be the biggest of them all.ā€

But pictures of the turnouts were reminiscent of Trumpā€™s inauguration embarrassment.

The mogulā€™s event attracted far smaller crowds than his predecessor, Barack Obamaā€™s did, then his team vastly exaggerated crowd numbers saying it was the ā€œlargest everā€.

The response to Trumpā€™s call to action on Saturday was somewhat predictable, with his links to Russiaā€™s hacking scandal quickly surfacing.

But if pictures of the events circulating on social media are anything to go by, the only real concern Trump had was getting anyone to attend at all.

In Atlanta, about 250 people gathered to sing and chant in support of the president, according to The Atlanta Journal Constitution.

In Brea, California, Reuters estimated about 60 people turned up and chanted, ā€œBuild the wall!ā€ and ā€œGod bless America! God bless Donald Trump!ā€

The Denver Post estimated 250 people attended a rally on the steps of the Colorado Capitol.

Trumpā€™s detractors seized upon the images, ridiculing the president using his own ā€˜fake newsā€™ and ā€˜media cover-upā€™ claims.

A second set of pro-Trump rallies is scheduled for Saturday.
