Schools under the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) have been notified that Class X students will receive grades for their performance in activities that promote "patriotism, self-sacrifice."

The Hindustan Timesreported today that students will be graded from A to E on activities such as yoga, martial arts, sports, and the National Cadet Corps. The grades will be included on their mark sheets, but not influence the overall result, HT reported.

"Students should be provided opportunities to get professionally trained in the areas of their interest. Indigenous sports, yoga and NCC must be encouraged in the schools to create a sense of physical fitness, discipline, sportsmanship, patriotism, self-sacrifice and health care," the notification reads.

Last year, the Governing Body of the CBSE restored the Class X board exam after a seven-year-long hiatus, and decided to introduce an eligibility test for principals.
