While all of Indian social media celebrated the union of IAS topper Tina Dabi and Athar Aamil-ul Shafi Khan, who lost the first rank to Dabi, a far right organisation has allegedly written a letter to Dabi's parents calling the couple's union 'love jihad'.
A report in Janta Ka Reporter suggests that national secretary of the Hindu Mahasabha, Munna Kumar Sharma, wrote to Dabi's parents that while he was happy about her achievements, Dabi's father should reconsider the match and also demanded that Athar be first persuaded to undergo 'ghar wapsi'.
It was only last week that Dabi and Khan's wedding plans had created quite the buzz on social media.
The Hindu Mahasabha has also claimed that this was love jihad.
Dabi and Khan met for the first time at the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) office in North Block, New Delhi. They started dating soon after they met.
While it was supposedly love at first sight for Khan, it took a few months for Dabi to warm up to the idea. And as the news of their marriage plans went viral, Dabi told The Times of India that she had received several negative comments.
"As any freethinking independent woman I am entitled to certain choices. I am very happy with my choice and so is Aamir. Our parents are happy too. But there will always be those elements, that small minority who will always pass negative comments about dating someone from another religion. It is just that 5%. The majority are very happy . You would have seen in my Facebook timeline that most of the comments are encouraging," she said.
Dabi belongs to the Dalit community and Khan is Muslim.Suggest a correction
