Two women bouncers who worked with an event management company foiled a robbery and rape attempt by two strangers with a gun in a moving car in Gurgaon.

The two women had reportedly hailed a cab near Iffco Chowk in Gurgaon in the wee hours on 23 October and were on their way to Delhi, when the cab driver pulled over and picked up another passenger.

The women — one of whom is single and the other married with two children — were not alarmed, as this is not an uncommon practice in Delhi.

According to The Times of India, the cab driver was driving suspiciously slow, clearly looking for a safe place to pull over, while the other passenger, who turned out to be the driver's accomplice, was pretending to look for a dropped object and trying to touch them.

When the alarmed women asked the driver go faster, the accomplice pulled out a gun and robbed them of their phones, jewellery and cash.

According to a report in the India Today, the women offered no resistance at first until one of the men started groping them.

The 29-year-old female bouncer then lunged for the driver, who was still driving at a slow pace, took the steering wheel and rammed the car into a divider on the road.

When the car came to a halt, the women managed to get out and shout for help. Passersby came to their rescue and nabbed the driver's accomplice, identified as one Pawan, according to the Hindustan Times. The driver, Vikas, had fled the scene, but was caught on Sunday.

Their travails over, the women are still seething with anger. One of them told TOI:

"They could try this as they had a gun. Else, we would have taught them a lesson [sic]."

Vikas and Pawan have been charged with criminal intimidation, snatching, and attempted rape.
