Sudhanshu Saria's LOEV, a relationship drama involving three men, is all set to have its Indian premiere at the 18th Mumbai Film Festival, scheduled to take place in the city between October 20-27.
The film — starring the late Dhruv Ganesh (he passed away last year at the age of 29 after suffering from tuberculosis), Shiv Pandit, and Siddharth Menon — tells the story of three men, two of whom are in a relationship with each other, and how a weekend trip makes each of them examine what love is. It had its world premiere at Estonia's Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival in November last year and was selected to screen at Austin's prestigious South By Southwest Film (SXSW) Festival earlier this year, in the Visions section.
Initial reviews have been encouraging. Wendy Ide of Screen Dailycalled the film "quietly revolutionary", taking into context India's archaic laws (namely Section 377) that criminalise same-sex love. Shelagh Rowan-Legg of Screen Anarchy wrote: "A refreshing change from the usual cinema seen out of India, LOEV examines the personal and the political, at times rightfully mingling the two, in a sensitive yet open portrait of love and sexuality."
LOEV will be playing in competition under the India Gold section at the Mumbai Film Festival.
