Eight years ago, when Dinesh and Tarakeshwari Rathod were married, they promised to each other that they will scale Mt. Everest one day. Last month, on 23 May, they did just that.

“We were committed that we would not give birth to a child until we climb Mt. Everest," Dinesh told journalists yesterday. His wife added, “With pride now, we want to become parents.”

The couple, who are both 30 years old, joined as police constables in Maharashtra a decade ago. They claimed to the first Indian couple to climb the peak together.

They had earlier planned to climb the mountain last year, but had to postpone plans after the earthquake in Nepal.
