The trailer for Mozez Singh's debut Zubaan was released online on Wednesday afternoon.
Starring Vicky Kaushal and Sarah-Jane Dias, Zubaan is a musical drama about a Punjabi singer (Kaushal) — modelled on Gurdas Maan — and a free-spirited dancer (Dias). It opened last year's Busan International Film Festival in South Korea, only the second Indian film to have ever done so, to positive reviews (Variety called it "well-acted, broadly accessible entertainment") and a Rising Director Asia Star award for Singh.
The trailer, which looks commendably slick and stylish, shows us bits of the lead character's journey as well as snatches of the catchy songs composed by Ashutosh Phatak, formerly of composer duo Dhruv-Ashu, who worked on films such as Bombay Boys (1998).
Produced by Guneet Monga, well-known for backing acclaimed indies such as Masaan (2015) and The Lunchbox (2013), Zubaan hits theatres on March 4.
