Even with Bengaluru and Mumbai fast catching up, Delhi has managed to retain its position at the top of Amazon’s list of the most well read cities in the country, for the third time in a row this year. This year also saw Ahmedabad as a new entrant, bagging the eighth position. Lucknow and Coimbatore -- placed ninth and tenth last year -- dropped to the 22nd and 18th spots respectively.

Other cities entering the list this year are Surat, Bhubaneswar, Vadodara, Ernakulam and Vishakapatnam.

The annual report released yesterday also declared Amish Tripathi 2015's best-selling author for his book ‘Scion Of Ikshvaku’. The book also topped the Hindi category. Last year, Tripathi’s ‘Shiva Trilogy’ booked the bestseller position in Hindi, Marathi and Kannada.

Chetan Bhagat’s ‘Half Girlfriend' that topped last year, slid down to third, after the Manorama Yearbook 20145. APJ Abdul Kalam’s ‘Wings On Fire: An Autobiography’ Emerged as the eighth most sold book in 2015.

‘Fifty Shades of Grey As Told By Christian’ topped the literature and fiction category, while Paula Hawkin’s ‘The Girl On The Train’ was the most popular book under the Crime, Thriller & Mystery category.

The report also revealed that the Exam Preparation Books category emerged as the third most popular genre, and is amongst the fastest growing categories on the website that supplies the largest number of books in different languages.

Recently Marathi books have also been added to this list, and have found a huge audience particularly in non-metro cities where regional language books have featured in the top ten best sellers list. When it comes to the best performance in this category, language translations of ‘The Secret’ continued to retain its position right at the top.

The report, according to Amazon.in, is compiled on the basis of orders received from the websites Book Store, depicting customer’s choices in different reading genres as well as the authors they prefer. Accumulation of the sales data of all physical books sold last year, helped determine the ranking of the cities.

Here is the list of best selling books this year:

1. Scion of Ishvaku - Amish Tripathi

2. Manorama Yearbook 2015 - Mammen Mathew

3. Half Girlfriend - Chetan Bhagat

4. Word Power Made Easy - Norman Lewis
