When Mumbai-based businessman Nitin Kagzi signed up for a Rs25,000 annual package at an upscale Mumbai salon, he couldn't have imagined it would land him on the surgery table at Breach Candy Hospital.
And yet, that's what happened on Sunday, when Kagzi received a snip on the ear at the Lower Parel outlet of French salon chain Jean-Claude Biguine.
Yesterday, Kagzi posted a picture of his damaged ear on the official Facebook Page of Jean-Claude Biguine Salon, India.
Kagzi and his wife Prachi said they were infuriated by the lax attitude of the staff and the management. "The stylist tried to hide the injury from my husband by refusing to let him see it. He held onto the injury, and quickly wrapped a bandage around it," said Prachi, who was dining at the restaurant next door, and was summoned by Kagzi to look at his ear. "He even tried to hide it from me, claiming that the bleeding would not stop if I removed the bandage, but I didn't listen to him."
"The lady in-charge of the salon rushed out and tried to hide in an alley with five or six men, but when I confronted her, she claimed it was to get the doctor on call," she said, also adding that the staff unanimously claimed they didn't know who the owner of the salon was, when she asked to contact the management.
She rushed her husband to Breach Candy Hospital, where he underwent a small surgery.
Prachi said the response they received from the management left them underwhelmed. "Nitin received a prototype response on email from the CEO, Samir Srivastava -- the sorts you would send to a customer with a small grievance like a hair colour session gone wrong. He even sent the CEO a photograph of his ear. We received a call much later, with a silly excuse about him being out of town," said Prachi.
An outraged Kagzi, who has been visiting the outlet for five years, said he is considering legal action.
We received the following statement from the salon management.
"We deeply regret the unfortunate accident sustained by our long-standing client, Mr. Nitin Kagzi during his haircut at our Palladium salon yesterday. Jean Claude Biguine salons values customer relationships at the core of its DNA. We have taken immediate action against the concerned stylist and we express our deepest apology to Mr Kagzi for his injury and wish him a speedy recovery. To us, customer safety remains paramount and we are fully committed to upholding this standard."
