What is Indian culture? Is it anything to do with our rich heritage and considerable contribution to the arts, or is it just a front for patriarchy i.e. a way to control and repress the freedom of women and open sexuality?
The latest sketch by comedy collective Schitzengiggles, known as SnG, essentially ends up asking this question as it depicts the shoot of a lingerie ad that is being overseen by a representative of the Censor Board.
Featuring SnG members Varun Thakur, Kautuk Srivastava, and Aadar Malik, the video — uploaded to YouTube earlier this week and debuted at the recently-concluded 17th Mumbai Film Festival — throws light on how censorship in India has reached alarming proportions in recent times.
Simply put: is this a light-hearted comedy sketch, or a glimpse into the future?
