On Monday, a Mumbai court extended the judicial custody of Indrani Mukerjea, accused of murdering her own daughter, who is recovering in a local hospital after allegedly overdosing on anti-depressant pills, last week.
Judicial custody has been extended for Bora, and the two other accused for the murder of 24-year-old Sheena Bora --Mukerjea’s former husband Sanjeev Khanna and her driver Shyam Rai -- till October 19, Press Trust of India reported on Monday.
They allegedly kidnapped Bora in 2012, and strangled her to death in a car.
Mukerjea, 48, who is now married to media baron Peter Mukerjea, gained consciousness on Sunday, PTI reported, and urine samples from Hinduja Hospital laboratory confirmed a high level of benzodiazepine — an anti depressant.
“Indrani continues to be in a state of consciousness from yesterday. Most probably we may start giving her oral strips for further round of treatment,” said T. P. Lahane, dean of J J Hospital, a government-run facility in Mumbai.
Mukerjea could be shifted back to jail on Tuesday or Wednesday, said Lahane, and doctors may allow the police to question her today if she is able to speak.
