On April 14, 2014, Supreme Court of India made a landmark judgement. It finally recognised transgender citizens as belonging to a third gender and made it mandatory for the government to provide them jobs and education quotas.
They can now become scientists, soccer stars, musicians, painters, cops, teachers, engineers and everything else, thanks to the new law.
In a powerful video, posted by Yathartha Pictures on YouTube yesterday, 7 hijras display their pride and honour in being Indian and show the country that they have the right to choose an employment which fits their talent, skill, and passion, just like any one of us.
Watch this video where the seven transgenders sing the national anthem of India.
Correction: An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated that the date of the landmark ruling was 14 February, 2014. The error is regretted.
