Swapan's Picks: 5 Stationery Brands To Write Home About

I am woefully old-fashioned in many matters. I like sending printed invitations. I do write notes. And I use fountain pens mostly. Which is why stationery is critical to my existence. Here are five brands that I swear by.

All formal invitations to dinner at our home (which happens once a year. Maybe twice) are sent on Smythson cards. I like the thickness of the paper. The embossing is pedigreed and the fonts always, always fabulous. Nothing buggers up a card more than the fonts. The guy who invented Comic Sans deserves to be executed. Besides their invitation cards, I find their Blue Nile stationery magical.

Quill London

Quill London is another sigh-inducing place, brimming with all things beautiful. I get my Palomino Blackwing pencils from them. Their Brass Pencil Sharpeners are a work of art. Even their notebooks are completely fabulous.

Connor is pricey but it's luxey. And Christmas comes once a year. Their Holidays cards are wonderful. My personal favourite is the 'Tis The Season card. Hand-stamped with a graceful border and nicely lined envelopes. Lining lifts envelopes.

I moved on from Moleskin several years ago. Leuchtterm is way hipper. They have some very simple, functional yet nifty notebooks and jot books. Check out their infinitely cool Book Boxes.

The only Indian brand of stationery worth considering is Rubberband. Their new Globe Series stands out: black is beautiful as hell. But what I love most in their spectacular range is the Empty Memory USB piece: it is cast from stainless steel and has a clear block of acrylic as well. It is the only pen drive that I use.
