Is there a universal definition of love?
Does love mean the same thing to you and me?
As I look at my own life, and observe the lives of the people around me, I see quite clearly that there is no universal definition of love. Love means different things to different people. Even for a single individual, the definition of love changes as they evolve in the journey of life; the emotions, expressions, intensity and manifestations vary based on the relationships and phase of life you are in. However, what is universal is that love has always been a very powerful, positive and transformational human emotion.
I think one of the best tributes to "love" is to love yourself unconditionally. So in this post, I'm sharing a few ways you can love yourself.
1. Smile and laugh

Smile a lot, laugh a little (or maybe a lot) today. It goes a long way in keeping your mind healthy and balanced. It keeps life in perspective and you in better control. The simplest way is to do things which trigger your smiles, like reading jokes, watching a fun movie, looking at happy photos from days gone by. Whatever it is, find a reason to smile and laugh -- it can be a wonderful way to love yourself.
2. Get the body moving and heart racing

A good work-out makes you feel active, energetic, happy and upbeat, in addition to ensuring your overall physical health and well-being. According to this Harvard Health blog, in addition to the physical benefits "exercise changes the brain in ways that protect memory and thinking skills."
3. Indulge your palate
"Your diet is a bank account. Good food choices are good investments." -- Bethenny Frankel
There is something about good food which teases and pleases you in more than one way. A nice hearty meal which includes one or more of your favourite dishes is a good way to love yourself. For many, good food is about indulgence (high fat and high sugar content) and it is OK to indulge once in a while.
4. Dress well
"I think clothing is transformative. When you put something really beautiful on, you feel something. In so many ways, we're always playing a form of dress-up -- it's just a grown-up, much chicer version of it. It's nice to be able to be whoever you want to be." -- Jason Wu
Looking good makes you feel positive and confident, changes the way you think and also changes the way others perceive you. Of course, it can also cause compliments to come your way, and who doesn't like that?
5. Spend time with people you love
"Spend time with those you love. One of these days you will say either, 'I wish I had' or 'I'm glad I did'." -- Zig Ziglar
It could in the real world or virtual world, but just spend time with people you love. It will make you happy and joyful, and hopefully them too.
6. Do one thing you really love today
"Everyone has been made for some particular work, and the desire for that work has been put in every heart." - Rumi
Small, big, fun, adventurous, comforting.... If you enjoy doing it, do it today. It can be reading, music, dance, just giving a piece of your mind to someone, laughing with your kids, writing. Do one thing you really love today.
7. Retail therapy
"Whoever said money can't buy happiness simply didn't know where to go shopping." -- Bo Derek
There is some unexplainable joy and happiness in shopping for yourself. Whatever you buy (clothes, footwear, perfumes, accessories, books, gadgets, cars, paintings, sculpture, art) and wherever you buy, the head and heart usually feel a lot lighter when the purse strings are loosened.
8. Make a financial investment in your name

Securing your financial future is a wonderful gift to yourself, and what better way than with a worthwhile financial instrument? Find a way to make your money work for you.
9. Practice an hour of silence every day
"Silence is a source of great strength." -- Lao Tzu
Observing one hour of silence in a day is a wonderful way to love yourself. Shut off the news, views, Google, phone, Facebook, Twitter, TV, worries -- and just be silent. Feel free to think and feel what you want, but don't say anything. Try it. Definitely worth it!
10. Do a random good deed today
"The nicest feeling in the world is to do a good deed anonymously-and have somebody find out." -- Oscar Wilde
Doing a random good deed for someone in the real or virtual world is a fantastic act. If you are wondering how, here are a few suggestions -- donate blood, sponsor a meal for someone who can't afford it, fund the education of someone in need, help someone on social media (answer a question, share a resource, write for a cause). Your good deed will make a difference to someone, and that is a wonderful way to give back for all the wonderful things you have in life
