29 Killed As Bus Skids Off Yamuna Expressway Into Canal Near Agra

Around 46 people were reportedly on board the bus at the time of the accident.

At least 29 people were killed after a bus travelling from Lucknow to Delhi skidded off the Yamuna Expressway and fell into a canal near Agra, the Hindustan Times reported.

Around 46 people were on board the bus at the time of the accident, NDTV says. According to the police, 15-16 of the injured have been taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Agra’s senior superintendent of police Babloo Kumar said families of victims can call on 9454402732 to get information on their relatives, the HT report said.

While the cause of the accident isn’t known yet, an official told HT, “Maybe it was a case of steering jam or the driver losing focus.”

CM Yogi Adityanath has reportedly taken cognizance of the accident and expressed his grief and condolences at the death of the passengers. He has directed DM SSP to provide all possible medical attention to the injured.

Uttar Pradesh Roadways has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the family of the deceased, ANI reported.
