At Thursday’s Nintendo Direct, Nintendo announced a remake of the original Nintendo Wii (and then New Nintendo 3DS) Xenoblade Chronicles game. Xenoblade Chronicles has been playable on the Wii U and New Nintendo 3DS family of systems already. Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition is a remake that looks to use the same engine as Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Watch the announcement trailer below:

When the Nintendo Direct was announced, many people involved with Xenoblade Chronicles 2 were sharing news about the Direct leading to speculation that Xenoblade Chronicles will be present in some form. Most people expected a port of the Wii U game Xenoblade Chronicles X. Hopefully that still happens in the future.

Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition releases next year for Nintendo Switch.
