It's cool. It's all cool.

Karnataka’s political scene is on the churn once again.

1. All Karnataka ministers quit state cabinet

Thirteen MLAs resigned over the weekend and independent MLA H Nagesh, who had supported the Congress-JDS coalition government, joined their ilk on Monday.

In an apparent effort to pacify and make way for the rebel MLAs, all the Congress and JDS ministers of the Karnataka cabinet also resigned.

But, another independent MLA R Shankar quit in the evening as minister.

2. An MLA was ‘hijacked’

In a resignation letter submitted to the state Governor, Nagesh said he was withdrawing support for the Congress-JDS government and would extend support to BJP if they were to form government. BJP state leader Shobha Karandlaje said they would welcome him.

However, Karnataka minister and Congress leader DK Shivakumar told reporters Nagesh had called him to say he (Nagesh) had been “hijacked” by BJP leader Yeddyurappa’s personal assistant and party.

“By the time I reached airport the flight had left,” Shivakumar said.

Later in the day, Nagesh was spotted at the Sofitel hotel in Mumbai, where some of the rebel MLAs are lodged.

3. Another minister threatened to quit

Karnataka minister and Congress’ Bidar North MLA Rahim Mahmood Khan said he had informed senior Congress functionaries about his grievances and would take a decision on quitting after meeting them at Deputy CM G Parameshwara’s residence, PTI reported.

4. Yet another said some of the rebels were coming back

Karnataka minister and Congress MLA Zameer Ahmed Khan told reporters that “at least 6-7 MLAs of the 10 MLAs who are in the BJP camp are going to come back” by Monday evening.

5. Rajnath said BJP had nothing do with all the brouhaha

During an uproar in the Lok Sabha over the crisis unfolding in Karnataka, defence minister Rajnath Singh denied allegations of conspiracy levelled against the BJP by Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and blamed the slew of resignations in the state on Rahul Gandhi.

Gandhi had quit as Congress president on 25 May after the Lok Sabha elections.

6. Chill Kumaraswamy is chill

Meanwhile, CM Kumaraswamy, who has had his own problems with Congress through its alliance with JDS told reporters, “I don’t have any kind of anxiety about the present political development. I don’t want to discuss anything about politics.”

He also said, “The issue will be resolved, don’t worry. This government will run smoothly.”

Meanwhile, the absconding MLAs do what they do best. Hang out at resorts between party hopping.
