Three West Bengal MLAs — two from TMC and one from CPI(M) — joined the BJP on Tuesday.

TMC MLAs Subhranshu Roy, Tusharkanti Bhattacharjee and CPI(M) MLA Devendra Roy joined BJP. Subhranshu is the son of BJP leader Mukul Roy and had been suspended by TMC recently. As many as 50 Bengal councillors have also joined the party.

They joined the BJP at the party’s headquarters in Delhi in the presence of BJP general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya and Mukul Roy.

“Like the elections were held in seven phases in West Bengal, joining in BJP will also happen in seven phases. Today was just the first phase,” said Vijayvargiya.

This comes just days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi claimed that 40 TMC MLAs were in touch with him and will desert their party once the BJP wins the general elections.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had accused Modi of “shamelessly indulging in horse trading”.
