Over the last five years, one minister in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s cabinet who had become popular on social media was Sushma Swaraj. The Minister of External Affairs, she had become popular for her quick responses on Twitter to people in need. She was also the one to give curt and funny replies to those who messed with her.

While she did not contest the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, people had perhaps hoped she would be elected to the Rajya Sabha and would be part of the cabinet. However, it became clear during the ceremony that Swaraj would not be a part of the cabinet either.

Her name began to trend on Twitter with users expressing sadness over the fact that she would not be a minister anymore. Clearly Indian Twitter had grown fond of her over the last five years.

Here’s what people said.

Some even begged and pleaded for her to come back

There were some broken heart and sad emojis

Others praised her for her work

There was outright disappointment.

Swaraj did not contest the 2019 Lok Sabha elections reportedly due to ill health. She had gotten a kidney transplant in 2016. “Although my party has the right to decide my candidature, due to health reasons, I have decided that I will not contest the next Lok Sabha elections,” Swaraj had said.
