Protests have erupted in several states over the case with protestors demanding death penalty for the four accused. The four men were arrested on November 29 and are under judicial custody.

The charred body of the 27-year-old woman was found under a bridge in Hyderabad on November 28. The police later found that the accused plotted to lure her after puncturing the tire of her bike. When the woman was left stranded with a flat tire, the accused raped and killed her and set her body on fire.

The case had also rocked the Parliament on Monday with lawmakers demanding stringent punishment, castration and lynching for rapists. Samajwadi Party’s Jaya Bachchan called for lynching of rapists while DMK’s P. Wilson said courts should be empowered to surgically and chemically castrate convicted rapists before they are released from jails.
