A viral video of the incident drew criticism from all corners for making children re-enact an incident that has had a lasting impact on the fabric of India.

The video that circulated on social media showed children raising slogans of “Shri Ram Chandra ki jai” and waving saffron flags as they ran towards a massive photograph of the Babri Masjid and pulling it down.

The Times of India had reported that union minister DV Sadanand Gowda and Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi were guests at school’s sports day event on Sunday.

The report said the school enacted BJP leader LK Advani’s Rath Yatra that had led to the Babri Masjid demolition. The children also made a formation of the proposed Ram Mandir. In fact, Bedi tweeted videos of the event.

The Babri Masjid was demolished by thousands of kar sevaks on 6 December, 1992. The riots that ensued resulted in the death of over 2,000 people across the country.
