Robert Pattinson Batman Rumours Met With Bewilderment By Superhero Fans

He's tipped to replace Ben Affleck as the Caped Crusader.

Robert Pattinson has been tipped to become the next actor to play Batman, prompting some raised eyebrows from fans of the superhero franchise.

The former Twilight actor has been named as a frontrunner to replace Ben Affleck as the Caped Crusader.

According to Variety, Robert is in negotiations to land the role and star in director Matt Reeves’ forthcoming superhero film, due for release in 2021.

The reports have been met with a lot of bemusement online...

However, there were those who are excited to see what he does with the role...

Ben Affleck was the most recent actor to play the Dark Knight, appearing in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice and Justice League in 2017.

He also served as a director on the films, but stood down from both roles in January, having been met with a lukewarm response from fans with his portrayal of Batman.

It was recently reported that filmmaker Matt wants a younger actor to play Bruce Wayne.

While Robert is seen as the favourite to play Batman, US publication Deadline has also named former Skins star Nicholas Hoult.

He can currently be seen in the new Tolkien film, while he will also be appearing in the upcoming X-Men: First Class movie Dark Phoenix.

Whoever does land the role will be following in the footsteps of a number of huge stars.

Michael Keaton played the titular character in Tim Burton’s 1989 film Batman, with Val Kilmer and George Clooney also appearing in the same film series in Batman Forever and Batman & Robin respectively.

Christian Bale then played the character in Christopher Nolan’s trilogy, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises.
