Ranbir Kapoor Called Raju Hirani, Accused Of Sexual Assault, An 'Amazing Human Being'

Because Bollywood is all about sucking up.

Last night, Ranbir Kapoor won the Best Actor award for Rajkumar Hirani’s hagiography, Sanju, a film based on the life on Sanjay Dutt, where Dutt is seen pretty much as a victim of circumstances.

Kapoor could’ve quietly taken the award and bounced but he made it a point to thank his director, Rajkumar Hirani, who was accused of serious sexual assault by a woman in an email complaint sent to Sanju’s producers on November 3.

Ironically, the woman worked on Sanju and was allegedly violated by Hirani during the making of the film.

HuffPost had interviewed the woman and three of her friends who corroborated her testimony.

However, none of it mattered to Kapoor, who in the speech said, “You are such an amazing filmmaker, such an amazing human being...and from the bottom of my heart, I thank you.”

Barring a few actors, the industry has largely maintained a stoic silence on Hirani, who is arguably Bollywood’s most successful commercial filmmaker.

While Rajkummar Rao said that an impartial investigation is needed in the case, Kapoor is one of the first mainstream A-lister to openly show support for the director.
