Prince Harry And Meghan Markle's Royal Wedding Was A Year Ago Today – Here Are The Best Bits

From the dress reveal to Harry's three words at the altar.

With royal baby Archie Harrison dominating the headlines in recent weeks, it’s easy to forget Meghan Markle and Prince Harry got married a year ago today.

The couple wed in the historic surroundings of St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle on 19 May 2018 – and were watched around the world by millions.

Their wedding followed a whirlwind romance of just under two years, after the pair were set up on a blind date by a mutual female friend in summer 2016.

If you want to relive the big day, here are some of the best bits, in photos.

The Dress Reveal

Royal fans had been pondering for months what Meghan would wear on her big day, so the moment she stepped out of the car was tense indeed. Her boat-necked white gown was designed by British designer, Clare Waight Keller, the first female artistic director at the historic French fashion house Givenchy – and it was the Duchess of Sussex who later that year presented Waight Keller with British designer of the year at the 2018 Fashion Awards (in Givenchy, obvs).

Harry Mouthing ‘I’m So Lucky’ At The Altar

We originally thought he said “I’m shitting it” when Prince Harry was caught on camera mouthing to Meghan – but lip readers later informed us his words were “I’m so lucky”, which is just as cute.

Rev. Michael Curry’s ‘Power Of Love’ Speech

Rev Bishop Michael Curry, the first African-American presiding bishop, gave an address titled the ‘Power of Love’ at the marrige service in St George’s Chapel. “There’s power in love,” he said. “Love can help and heal when nothing else can. There’s power in love to lift up and liberate when nothing else will.”

Pippa Middleton’s Dress

We loved it – the colour was summery and the florals were beautiful – but it did sort of resemble an ice tea drink.

All The Kids Being Ridiculously Cute

Remember when Princess Charlotte stuck her tongue out in the car and made a face? Oh, and the sheer joy on the face of one of Jessica Mulroney’s twins carrying Meghan’s train? They might be royals, but they’re still kids after all.

These are the same cuties who now get to be playmates with Archie.

The Public Getting Into The Spirit Of Things

HuffPost UK had reporters in Windsor, Margate, Glasgow and east London – witnessing the public celebrating, with everything from street parties to packed-out pubs. There were people in wedding dresses, others wearing Harry and Meghan masks, and a lot of confetti being thrown.

The First Kiss

After exchanging rings at the altar, the couple kissed on the steps outside the chapel before their carriage procession in an open top Ascot landau, where they passed more than 100,000 people lining the route through Windsor town.

The (Second) Dress Reveal

Because why only have one wedding dress when you can have two? The second was a maxi white halter neck number, designed by another British design queen, Stella McCartney.
