2 Pilots Dead After Fighter Jet Crashes At HAL Airport In Bengaluru

A Mirage 2000 trainer fighter aircraft crashed at the HAL airport.

Two pilots died after a Mirage 2000 trainer fighter aircraft of the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited crashed at the HAL airport in Bengaluru on Friday, ANI reported.

Both the test pilots — squadron leader Negi and squadron leader Abrol — had ejected from the aircraft. However, one of them landed near the wreckage, the news agency said. The other succumbed to injuries later.

The pilots belonged to the Air Force’s Aircraft and Systems Testing Establishment unit, an air force official said.

The plane crashed at the edge of the Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) airport compound, which is surrounded by several office and residential buildings, according to a Reuters eyewitness.

The plane burst into flames immediately after the crash.

The cause of the crash was not immediately known.

Mirage-2000 is manufactured by France’s Dassault Aviation.
