Earlier today, Zee Studios released the trailer of Kangana Ranaut’s much-awaited Manikarnika - the Queen of Jhansi at a Mumbai multiplex.

The film explores the feisty Laxmi Bai’s rise as queen of Jhansi and her fight against the British to save her kingdom.

Directed by Telugu filmmaker Radha Krishna Jagarlamudi and written by Baahubali screenwriter V Vijayendra Prasad, the film is slated to hit the screens on 25 January in over 50 countries.

The film also stars Atul Kulkarni, Ankita Lokhande, Jisshu Sengupta, Danny Denzongpa, Suresh Oberoi and Yash Tonk.

While under production, Manikarnika has had its share of controversies. Accusing Ranaut of hijacking his film, director Ketan Mehta sent her a legal notice in May 2017.

Mehta said he had approached Ranaut for for Rani of Jhansi: The Warrior Queen in 2015 and said the actor had committed to doing the film then. But she later backed out and announced another film titled Manikarnika - The Queen of Jhansi with Jagarlamudi as director.

Jagarlamudi left Manikarnika midway to shoot another project and Ranaut reportedly took over as director.

Co-star Sonu Sood too left the film over clash of dates.

Ranaut, however, said Sood had quit because he refused to work under a female director, a claim that Sood vehemently denied.
