Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge, who had expressed his dissent with the decision to sack Alok Verma as CBI director, on Tuesday wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, asking him to make public the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) report.

He also asked the PM to bring into public domain the minutes of the selection panel meeting on 10 January.

Kharge, along with Modi and Justice AK Sikri, was part of the three-member committee which voted to sack Alok Verma as CBI chief.

In his letter, Kharge has asked Modi to convene a meeting of the committee immediately to appoint a new CBI chief.

He says that the step should be taken so that “public can draw its own conclusions in this matter”, reported News18.

The Congress leader, according to Hindustan Times, has also questioned the appointment of M Nageshwar Rao as the interim director of the CBI after Verma’s ouster.

The report said Kharge insists Rao’s appointment is neither covered under the law nor had it been vetted by the selection committee.

Verma was removed from his position after a meeting of Modi-led selection panel. Kharge had strongly argued for giving Verma a chance to present his case before the committee on the allegations levelled against him by the CVC.

However, the Prime Minister and Justice AK Sikri did not agree and voted to sack him from the post.
