On Wednesday evening at a press event in Mumbai, actor-politician Shatrughan Sinha made controversial remarks about the #MeToo movement, saying that he feels fortunate that he hasn’t been outed given the things he has done in the past.

“Today is the time of #MeToo, and there shouldn’t be any shame or hesitation to say that behind a successful man’s fall is a woman. Behind the troubles and infamy of successful men, there have been mostly women that I have seen in this movement,” Sinha was quoted in The Indian Express as saying.

His wife, according to eye-witnesses, looked embarrassed. He called his wife a “goddess” and his “everything” and said that he used her as a shield to show that he is “happily married” and that his “life is good.”

The actor and BJP politician also said that if any woman had anything to say about him, she shouldn’t. “Even if anyone wants to say anything about me, please don’t say,” he said.

“Today is the time of #MeToo, and there shouldn’t be any shame or hesitation to say that behind a successful man’s fall is a woman. Behind the troubles and infamy of successful men, there have been mostly women,” the actor went on.

After being questioned by a reporter, Sinha said his comments should be taken in “lain sense of humour.”

He said, “Don’t take it otherwise,” he said.

The #MeToo movement which first hit Bollywood in October 2018 took down many big names such as Vikas Bahl, Rajkumar Hirani, Nana Patekar, Sajid Khan, Anirban Blah, besides several others.
