Kerala Bypoll Results: Congress-Led UDF Wins 3 Seats, Left Wrests Vattiyoorkavu, Konni

Congress led-UDF won three seats in the bypolls for five Kerala assembly constituencies on Thursday.

UDF retained Ernakulam with its candidate TJ Vinod winning by 3750 votes.

In Aroor, which had recorded the highest polling among the five seats, the Congress and CPIM candidates were in a close race. Congress’ Shanimol Osman won the seat with a slender margin of 2079 votes.

LDF wrested Vattiyoorkavu from Congress as CPIM’s VK Prasanth won with a margin of over 14,000 votes. Prasanth, who is also Thiruvananthapuram Mayor, was handpicked by Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan for the electoral race.

The Left also took Konni from UDF, where CPIM’s Janeesh Kumar won with over 9900 votes.

In Manjeshwar, UDF maintained a comfortable lead over BJP, winning with over 7,900 votes.

Manjeshwar — MC Kamaruddin (IUML) won by 7,923 votes against Raveesh Thanthri Kuntar (BJP)

Ernakulam — TJ Vinod (Congress) won by 3750 votes against Manu Roy (Independent)

Aroor — Shanimol Osman (Congress) won by 2,079 votes against Manu C Pulickal (CPIM)

Konni — KU Janeesh Kumar (CPIM) won by 9,953 votes against P Mohanraj (Congress)

Vattiyoorkavu — VK Prasanth (CPIM) won by 14,465 votes against K Mohankumar (Congress)

Bypolls were held in Vattiyoorkavu, Konni, Aroor and Ernakulam seats after its MLAs were elected to the Lok Sabha in May general elections. Voting for bypolls were held on Monday amid heavy rains in the state.

In the recent bypoll in Pala assembly seat, LDF’s Mani C Kappan had wrested the UDF bastion, defeating Jose Tom Pulikkunnel of Congress.
