Two days after an armed and masked mob attacked students inside the campus of the Jawaharlal Nehru University, reports say that an FIR has been filed against JNU students union leader Aishe Ghosh and others for “vandalism”.
NDTV reported that the FIR against Ghosh and 19 others claims that they vandalised the university’s server room on January 4, the night before the students were attacked by the masked mob.

The Hindu reported that the FIR accused Ghosh, JNUSU vice-president Saket Moon and other students of breaking and entering the Communication and Information Services office located in admin block from the back door and damaging fibre optic cables, servers and biometric devices.
Meanwhile, a forensic team is in JNU to probe the attack on Sunday night.

5:27 pm: Sitaram Yechury Demands Removal Of JNU VC
After being stopped from marching inside campus, CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury said that the JNU VC, Mamidala Jagadish Kumar should be sacked and those who attacked the students needed to be identified.
Yechury along with Prakash Karat and others were leading a march to JNU and they were stopped from entering the campus.

The Allahabad High Court on Tuesday asked the NHRC to probe police action on AMU students during a protest against the CAA. The court has the NHRC to complete the probe within a month and apprise the court of it. The next hearing in the case is 17 February, 2020.
3:58 pm: JNU Alumni March That Included Sitaram Yechury, Prakash Karat Stopped From Entering Campus
A JNU alumni march that included political leaders like Prakash Karat and Sitaram Yechury, was stopped by the Delhi police from entering JNU campus.
Zeba Warsi a correspondent with CNN News18 said on Twitter that they were supposed to join a public meeting by the Jawaharlal Nehru University Teachers Association.

Meanwhile, the JNU VC M Jagdesh Kumar has condemned the “violence” in JNU on Sunday night and wants to “put the past behind”.
Kumar’s comments come even as students who have been victims of said violence have been named in FIRs and the perpetrators are still at large.

A team of the Forensic Science Laboratory team reached JNU on Tuesday morning to probe the attack that took place on Sunday night that left several students and professors badly injured.
12:45 pm: Fringe Group Hindu Raksha Dal Takes ‘Full Responsibility’ Of JNU Attack
Right-wing fringe group Hindu Raksha Dal’s leader Pinky Chaudhary told ANI “we take full responsibility of the attack”.
“JNU is a hotbed of anti-national activities, we can’t tolerate this. We take full responsibility of the attack in JNU and would like to say that they were our workers,” Chaudhary said.
Meanwhile the government sources told ANI that they were probing this claim.

12:36 pm: JNU Registrar: ‘Myth We Don’t Talk To Students’
Even as students at the Jawaharlal Nehru University have said that they got no help from the admin and the police as they were brutally attacked on Sunday night, Dr Pramid Kumar dismissed the allegations on Tuesday.
Kumar told ANI, “We are trying to make the students understand so that the registration process can be restarted. The administration is in contact with the students who are protesting. It is a total myth that we do not talk to them.”
10:30 am: JNUSU’s Aishe Ghosh Charged With Vandalism
Ghosh, against whom the police has registered an FIR, was one of those badly injured. The Indian Express reported that she had received 16 stitches for her wounds and was discharged from AIIMS on Monday.
The FIR against one of those who were grievously injured in the attack comes even as there was a huge police presence outside JNU on Tuesday morning.
Ghosh had said on Monday that the attack on Sunday night was organised and that some “RSS-affiliated professors” were promoting the violence. “There is a clear nexus between the JNU security (staff) and vandals. They did not intervene to stop violence,” she told reporters.
Huffpost India had earlier reported dozens of students on campus as saying that the masked goons appeared to be representatives of the ABVP. The students shared screenshots from what appears to Whatsapp groups of ABVP and RSS supporters ostensibly coordinating the storming of JNU. HuffPost India was unable to verify the authenticity of these screenshots and messages.
