India is out of cricket World Cup following 18-run defeat against New Zealand in the semi-final.

India needed to overhaul a 240-run target to earn a shot at their third ODI World Cup title. It was all out at 221 in 49.3 overs (Ravindra Jadeja: 77, MS Dhoni: 50).

Half-centuries from captain Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor helped New Zealand to their modest 239 for eight against India.

New Zealand took three wickets in the opening 19 balls of India’s innings with Rohit Sharma, skipper Virat Kohli and KL Rahul all dismissed for one.

India got themselves back in the game after a 116-run seventh-wicket partnership between Dhoni and Jadeja, only to be bowled out for 221 with three balls remaining.

Hosts England play defending champions Australia in the second semi-final on Thursday. The Black Caps will face the winners of Thursday’s semi-final in Sunday’s final at Lords.
