8 Home Decor Trends We'd Like To Leave Behind In 2015

We're lookin' at you, chevron.

Ever looked in your closet and thought, "Why was I so into those trendy Birkenstocks, graphic tees and mom jeans?" We're having similar thoughts about our home decor Pinterest boards. The year that passed gave us a lot of great decorating material -- the gallery wall, anyone? -- but the dawn of 2016 is making us think twice about the trends we want to stick around in the new year.

In the spirit of "out with the old, in with the new," let's say bye-bye to these home decor trends that have seen better days

1
Bed On The Floor
This trend is tricky, because it looks so beautifully effortless in photos. In real life, though, it can come off as a little messy and disorganized. Plus, it's hard enough to fall out of bed in the morning. We can't imagine mustering the strength to pick ourselves up off the floor with the sound of the alarm.
2
Chevron Everything
We're generally all for stripes, but these have been sufficiently exhausted. Pillows, rugs, duvet covers -- the pattern was everywhere in 2015. Let's try and branch out this year.
3
"Keep Calm" Has Carried On Way Too Long
While the quote's World War II history is beautiful, we are kind of over seeing the message coopted by decorators and DIYers alike. We wanted this one to be left behind in 2014, but it gained a second wind in 2015. Let's hope the third time's not the charm.
4
Gallery Walls Gone Wild
The gallery wall trend isn't going anywhere anytime soon. That's completely fine, just as long as things don't get crazy. Mismatched frames and funky textures are great, but maybe not for an entire wall.
5
Pillows That Talk
Don't get us wrong. We love a good inspirational quote and a kind word. But when it comes to putting them on pillows, we think we'll stick to wordless patterns in 2016.
6
Floor-To-Ceiling Photo Walls
This year, we're hoping old photos get properly framed before they're displayed on the wall for all to see.
7
Matchy Matchy
There's nothing wrong with sticking to a strict color palette when decorating a room. But we find it looks best when there's a little variation in the shades so the finished look isn't overwhelming.
8
Zany Geometric Wallpaper
We hope 2016 brings a wallpaper trend more subtle than the geometric motif we've been seeing all over Pinterest lately. Remember, folks, a little color goes a long way.
