In her first speech since she stepped into active politics, AICC in-charge of eastern Uttar Pradesh Priyanka Gandhi said that India must vote with caution, use the vote as a weapon and fight against the hatred being spread in the country.
Gandhi made her maiden speech from Prime Minister’s Narendra Modi’s turf in Gujarat. Addressing the Congress Jansankalp rally in Gandhinagar, Gandhi said, “I am saddened by what is happening in the country today... Our institutions are being attacked and hate is being spread everywhere,” Gandhi said,
She took a dig at the BJP and Modi saying, “Ask the person who made lofty promises to you— where is the Rs 15 lakhs they promised for every bank account. They had promised security for women. Ask those women, do they feel secure?”
Gandhi told the crowd in Gandhinagar that their vote had to be used like a weapon and as an act of patriotism. “Your vote is a weapon. You have to think before you vote. A lot of trivial issues will be brought up this election.”
“Your vote can change the winds of hatred. In the coming days, you will have to make this very important decision through your vote,” she said.
She called on people to choose the next government wisely for a better future for India.
Gandhi’s speech comes after a day-long meeting of the Congress Working Committee. The CWC meeting was held in Gujarat after a gap of 58 years. It was last held in the state at Bhavnagar in 1961.
