Suspended Indian cricketer Hardik Pandya, who caused a stir with his sexist remarks on the talk show Koffee with Karan, has not stepped out of the house since his return from Australia, his father Himanshu told Mid-day.

Pandya and KL Rahul were suspended pending an inquiry and sent home from Australia, where they were with the Indian men’s cricket team for an ODI series.

Pandya’s father told Mid-day that he saw India beat Australia in the second ODI. “He watched the match. Ever since he has returned from Australia, he has not stepped out of the house. He is also not taking any calls... he is just taking rest,” he added.

He also said that Pandya is very “disappointed” with the suspension and repents the views he expressed on the TV show, the report added.

Pandya and Rahul had both tendered unconditional apologies for their sexist comments. The duo gave their statements on Tuesday to BCCI CEO Rahul Johri, initiating the inquiry.

PTI reported that both the players deposed via telephone. “The CEO spoke to them via telephone. However, his brief was simple as the inquiry initiator. He has to just collate whatever they have written in their show cause reply. He is expected to submit his report to Committee of Administrators (CoA) by tomorrow,” a BCCI official, privy to the development, told PTI.

CoA chief Vinod Rai recommended a two-match ban on the duo but his colleague Diana Edulji took the matter to the BCCI legal cell, which refused to call the players’ actions a violation of the code of conduct and recommended the appointment of an ombudsman.

The BCCI office-bearers seconded Edulji and even went to the extent of demanding a Special General Meeting to discuss the matter. Rai, on the other hand, has cautioned against going too far.
