The trailer of Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy, a rap-drama starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt was unveiled in Mumbai today.
Set in the ghettos of Mumbai, the film explores the rise of hip-hop culture amongst the marginalised people in the city.
Singh plays an aspiring rapper who faces financial and familial conflicts in pursuing his dream of becoming a rap-artist. Alia Bhatt plays Safina, an aspiring doctor, who has a razor-sharp wit.
Both actors appear in peak form in the trailer that’s already trending on social media platforms.
Gully Boy is said to be inspired by the success of underground rap artists Divine and Naezy, who sang about economic oppression, life on the streets, and disenfranchisement.
With a screenplay by Reema Kagti and Zoya Akhtar, Gully Boy is produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesih Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment and opens in theatres February 14.
