Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh, who star in Gully Boy, posted the film’s first looks on Instagram on Wednesday with the tagline “Apna Time Aayega (our time will come)”.
Directed by Zoya Akhtar, the film explores the hip hop community in Mumbai and is inspired by Vivian Fernandes aka Divine whose song “Meri Gully Mein,” with fellow rapper Naved Shaikh aka Naezy, brought him mainstream success.
In the first poster, Ranveer Singh is seen with his back to the camera, wearing a hoodie, with lyrics faintly printed across the photo.
One of the posters shows both the actors sitting next to each other sharing a pair of earphones to listen to music. Both Singh and Bhatt have a look of intense concentration and are dressed in muted colours.
Singh’s look is far removed from the larger than life characters he has recently played in Padmaavat and Simmba.
Not much has been revealed about Bhatt’s character, who is seen with her head covered in the poster.
This is the first film the two actors have done together.
Rapper Divine recently told PTI, “I’m really looking forward that the film will take hip hop to each and every corner, street and village in this country. I want to see more of our youth take up the mic or learn to play an instrument or produce beats and do something different in their careers.”
Gully Boy is set for release in India on 14 February. Its world premiere will be at the Berlin International Film Festival, between 7 and 17 February.
The film, produced by Excel Entertainment, also stars Kalki Koechlin, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Vijay Raaz, Amruta Subhash and Vijay Verma.
