BJP’s Kirron Kher won the Chandigarh constituency in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections by a margin of roughly 46,000 votes against Congress’ Pawan Kumar Bansal on Thursday, in the Lok Sabha election results. AAP’s Harmohan Dhawan was far third with just over 7,000 votes.

In 2014, Kher had defeated Bansal to win the seat by a margin of 69,642 votes.

She was given a nod for a BJP ticket to fight the 2019 elections because of her “satisfactory performance as a first time MP”. She was picked over city party chief Sanjay Tandon and former MP Satya Pal Jain, Hindustan Times reported.

Kher said that she was banking on the “Modi wave” and her work as an MP to a win a second term.

“I have a clean image and on the other hand, the entire country knows his image. It is my city and my hometown. I have done a lot of work here...I have been a vocal MP. I did not act in films for five years,” she told PTI.

While an MP, Kher has been a judge on the TV show India’s Got Talent.
