A police complaint has been filed against Syed Shuja, the man who claimed EVMs were rigged during 2014 polls, by the Election Commission (EC) of India, reports Hindustan Times.

PTI had earlier in the day reported that the EC had written to the Delhi Police to lodge an FIR against a self-proclaimed cyber expert for his claims that the 2014 Lok Sabha polls were rigged and the EVMs can be hacked.

Addressing a press conference in London via Skype, Shuja had said he fled India in 2014 because he felt threatened in the country after the killing of some of his team members. Although he appeared on screen through Skype, his face was masked.

Shuja, who said he is seeking political asylum in the US, claimed the telecom giant Reliance Jio helped the BJP to get low frequency signals to hack the EVMs. He provided no proof to back up his claim.

The EC had however denied Shuja’s claims.

It asserted that it firmly stood by the ‘foolproof nature’ of its machines even as it said it was examining as to what legal action “can and should” be taken in the matter.

Shuja had also alleged that other than the BJP, the SP, BSP, AAP and Congress too are involved in rigging of the EVMs.

Meanwhile, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley also rubbished the allegation of rigging of the electronic voting machines and said the insanity of the Congress is increasingly becoming contagious.

Even the Congress distanced itself from the event that the BJP claimed had been organised with the help of the Congress. “Obviously, the Congress party had nothing to do with organising the press conference and does not know the principal actors and has no role to play,” party spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said.

While Congress leader Kapil Sibal was present at the event, Singhvi said was invited by a journalist and he did not represent the Congress party at the press conference.
