The Downton Abbey Movie Trailer Has Finally Arrived

The film is out in September.

The first trailer for the Downton Abbey film has arrived – four years after the ITV series’ finale.

The period drama was a huge hit with fans throughout its six series run and most of the show’s cast will be back for the big screen adaptation.

The storyline continues after the series left off in the 2015 Christmas special, which was set in 1925.

The trailer – which you can watch above – shows the Crawley family and their servants preparing for the royal visit, which will include a luncheon, a parade and dinner.

Cast members including Hugh Bonneville, Michelle Dockery, Dame Maggie Smith, Joanne Froggatt, Jim Carter, Laura Carmichael, Penelope Wilton and Elizabeth McGovern can all be seen in the short clip.

There is a lot of anxiety ahead of the event, with Lady Mary asking their beloved and now-retired butler Mr Carson to return as she needs his help.

Maid Anna is also seen trying to convince Lady Mary not to leave Downton Abbey, telling her the house is “the heart of this community, and you’re keeping it beating”.

There are glimpses of traditional goings-on in the household, with the servants flitting around preparing for the royal arrival.

New cast members include Imelda Staunton – who is married to co-star Jim Carter – and Tuppence Middleton.

Julian Fellowes, the show’s creator, wrote the film screenplay and is also co-producing the feature.
