A video of a Madhya Pradesh farmer falling at the feet of Shivpuri collector and seeking intervention for installation of a new transformer at his farm has gone viral.

The incident happened on 28 December, according to ANI.

The Times of India reported that Ajit Jatav, a farmer from the Shivpuri district, had deposited Rs 40,000 to the local electricity department for the installation of a transformer at his farm five months ago.

Jatav told NDTV that despite completing all the necessary paperwork and several requests, the administration of Ranaud village allegedly did not act on it.

The NDTV report quoted District Collector Anugrah P as saying Jatav’s case was not singular and there were 50 such pending requests.

The District Collector also said Jatav’s issue had been resolved. The district collector was quoted as saying by NDTV, “There was no undue delay. It takes six months for installation after applying. There were others in the waiting list. He applied in August. But now we have given him the connection.”

State Cooperatives Minister Govind Singh has taken cognisance of the episode and said that he will inform Chief Minister Kamal Nath about it, according to IANS.

“Farmers are the priority of the government. We will ensure they are not put to any difficulty,” he was quoted as saying in the report.

Just hours after taking charge as the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh on 17 December, Nath cleared the proposal of waiving farm loans up to Rs 2 lakh.
