A 45-year-old woman, an architect, sustained a gunshot wound in her head on New Year’s eve, reportedly after a former JD(U) MLA fired celebratory shots in the air during a party at his farm house in Fatehpur Beri.

PTI reported that the accused Raju Singh, who also has five cases against him in Bihar, is absconding.

Reports say the woman, Archana Gupta, is currently in a critical state.

The Indian Express reported that Singh already has cases against him of attempt to murder and under the Arms Act.

The woman’s husband, Vikas Gupta, has filed a complaint with the police.

The report quoted Special Commissioner (law and order) R P Upadhyay as saying, “He has filed a complaint stating that they were at the farmhouse on Monday night for a New Year party with friends on the invitation of Raju Singh’s elder brother. He stated that around 12 am, two or three rounds were fired by Singh. Gupta saw his wife Archana fall down, bleeding profusely.”

The PTI report said that the police received a call from Fortis Hospital around Vasant Kunj where Gupta was brought in.

Singh is said to have been drunk when he fired the shots. The police have also said that there were 60 guests present at the party and none of them informed the police.

An investigating officer told The Indian Express, “No one from the farmhouse called police about the incident; they only received a call from the administration of Fortis Hospital in Vasant Kunj after Archana was brought in with a gunshot wound by Vikas and Raju’s elder brother Sumit.”

A case was registered against Singh under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Arms Act.

Singh lives in the farm house, Rose farms, with his two brothers and their families. It is owned by Singh’s mother.

Reports say the police has questioned guests present in the farm house.
