R Vasumathi, an assistant director of national broadcaster Doordarshan in Chennai, was reportedly suspended after complaints that the speech of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Singapore-India Hackathon 2019 in the IIT Research Park was not telecast live on DD Podhigai.

The News Minute, however, reported that the order given to Vasumathi does not mention the reason of her suspension, but says that a disciplinary hearing has been initiated against her and, until then, she will be under suspension as per the Central Civil Services Rules (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1965.

The News Minute quoted a “top source” in Prasar Bharati as saying, “This was a case of wilful insubordination. She failed to telecast the speech live despite having been instructed to do so explicitly.”

Prasar Bharati CEO Shashi Shekhar Vempati reportedly refused to comment on the issue.

The Hindu reported him as saying, “If this is regarding DD Podhigai, please note that it is an internal administrative matter and I will not be offering any comments on the same.”

Modi had addressed multiple gatherings in the city on September 30. He had also given away prizes to the winners of the hackathon.
