Reacting to the Supreme Court verdict on Saturday, Congress said it respects the judgment and is in favour of Ram temple construction.

The top court granted the disputed site to the Hindu parties and ordered that the Muslim litigants be given a five-acre alternative site to construct a mosque.

Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala said that the judgment “has not only opened the doors for the temple’s construction, but also closed the doors of the BJP and others to politicise it.”

In a statement, the Congress Working Committee “appealed to all parties concerned and all communities to abide by the secular values and spirit of fraternity enshrined in the Constitution and to maintain peace and harmony.”

“It is the responsibility of each one of us to reaffirm our tradition of mutual respect and unity among all that has defined our society through the ages,” it added.

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said all parties should respect the Supreme Court verdict on Ayodhya issue and maintain India’s age-old tradition of living together in harmony and brotherhood.
