Violence marred polling in West Bengal’s Asansol as the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha elections got underway on Monday.

As party workers clashed outside polling booths in Asansol, BJP MP Babul Supriyo’s car was vandalised.

Supriyo held TMC workers responsible for the incident.

“They have mobilised the mafia here. You have to take it in your stride. Wherever I go, they will create trouble,” he told reporters.

Meanwhile, a TMC polling agent said there was no BJP polling agent at polling booth 199. TMC workers and security personnel clashed here, ANI reported.

Outside polling booth number 125-129, clashes erupted between TMC workers and the QRF and security personnel as disagreement between BJP and CPI(M) workers after TMC workers insisted on polling despite absence of central forces.

Voting has been suspended in a few booths, NDTV reported.

Supriyo is contesting against TMC’s Moon Moon Sen in the Asansol seat.
