The Supreme Court on Wednesday granted bail to Congress leader P Chidambaram in INX Media money-laundering case on personal bond of Rs 2 lakh with two surety of like amount.

The top court set aside Delhi High Court’s November 15 verdict dismissing Chidambaram’s bail plea.

Congress leader will not be allowed to leave the country without prior permission of court, SC said.

The former Union finance minister has been in custody for 105 days since August 21 when he was arrested by the CBI in the INX Media corruption case.

The Enforcement Directorate had arrested him on October 16 in the money-laundering case.

The Congress on Wednesday welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision, saying truth finally prevails.

Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, however, said “justice delayed is justice denied”, adding, “this should have been granted much earlier”.
